I wanted to share a letter my brother wrote in order to get donations for our FIRST Kidney Walk. I read this letter several times and just felt moved to have all of you read it. I can’t express this enough when I say “FAMILY” is everything!!
I wanted to share an opportunity for us to help make a difference in this world. This week I’ll be walking in the National Kidney Foundation’s 2012 Orange County Walk. Some of you may know this, but for those of you who don’t,… my wonderful sister who just turned 35 this past month was diagnosed with kidney disease. She was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2007 and by March 2010, her kidneys lost all functioning capabilities. Without kidneys, our bodies are unable to filter out waste and poisonous toxins that our bodies naturally produce. Because of this, my sister is hooked up to a large dialysis machine 3 times a week, 4 hours each session to clean the toxins in her body. The treatments leave her weak with her arms covered in scars since she’s injected with large needles on a regular basis. In my opinion, this is not how a 35 year old, mother of two should be living her life each week. Due to my sister’s rare blood type (which I don’t have), the wait time for a transplant in the City of Los Angeles is 7 to 8 years.
Here’s how you can help!
1) The easiest way to help is to donate. Every dollar counts whether its just $1 or $20. Use this link( http://donate.kidney.org/site/TR/Walk/SouthernCalifornia/119327254?pg=team&fr_id=4600&team_id=116051 ), where you’ll see my name. Click on my name and you’ll see a “Donate” button.
2) You can come join the walk this Saturday at The Great Park in Irvine, CA at 9:00AM. There is a 1 mile option or a 3.1 mile option. It’ll be fun! Message me for more details
3) You can donate one of your kidneys 🙂
